Transferring a Domain To Hosting Scotland / DNS Servers
To fully transfer a domain to us, we must update the domain details in order for the details to be correct. Please follow this guideline on how to transfer a domain to us. Note that the procedure is different for a .UK domain, so read the part for your specific domain!
.COM / .NET & .ORG Domain Transfers:
The easiest way to do this is to visit your Control Panel and Click the button that reads 'Purchase or Move a domain into this account', or if you prefer, telephone or e-mail us with proof of your identity. Either way, we will initiate a domain transfer for you where possible.
Please note that in quite a lot of casese we cannot initiate the transer for you because registrars often put your domain into 'LOCKED' status. As the owner, you must set this to 'UNLOCKED', so that the transfer can be initiated. This is performed usually at the current domain registrars website, but sometimes must be requested by fax, mail or telephone. Once you have unlocked your domain, send us an email or call us and we will complete the transfer for you.
Note that this transfer service is free, however, we do charge 10.00 GBP to renew the domain for another year (the standard charge for 1 years domain registration). This renewal applies only to .COM, .NET and .ORG domains.
If all goes well, you should receive an email from your old domain-registration company asking if you really wish to make the domain transfer (ensure your email address with your old domain-registration company is up to date!). Reply to their e-mail with a YES and the domain will be transferred by us.
.UK Domain Transfers:
Note: The UK Registrar, NOMINET is in the process of re-vamping the domain-transfer procedure for .UK domains, so this procedure is due
to change soon!
Procedure:
1) Notify us of your intent to transfer the domain at your Control Panel, clicking on the button that read 'Purchase or Move a domain into this account'. If you prefer, you may telephone or e-mail us with proof of your identity.
2) Contact your old domain-registrar/ISP company and inform them that you wish to transfer your domain to us. They will in turn ask you for two pieces of information:
-
a) Our DNS servers, which are:
-
ns1.xbolt.net 62.193.238.97
ns2.xbolt.net 67.207.145.57
-
FASTHOSTS
Note that most companies will NOT charge for this service, but some companies have been known to have small-print get-out-clauses in which you must pay to transfer a domain away.
3) Once your old domain-registrar/ISP has updated your IPS TAG details, let us know and we will complete the transfer for you at no extra fee.
Problems?
In case of problems, including missing contact details and akward domain-resistrars we have put the following information below to help you out with a manual domain transfer:
Domain Transfers when the above method does not work:
Contact your old domain-company/ISP via fax / letter (preferred) or telephone/email for further instructions on transferring a domain to another provider. They should then ask you to provide information called 'handles' and also DNS servers (or nameservers).
Our DNS information is always the same, regardless of the domain type:
-
ns1.hostingscotland.net 62.193.238.97
ns2.hostingscotland.net 67.207.145.57
.COM domains:
1) Move the domain in to us via the button on your Control Panel.
2) Provide our Nameservers and Authority handles to your old provider
Our .COM/.NET Authority handles are:
Technical Handle: sales@xbolt.net
Billing Handle: sales@xbolt.net
Admin Handle: sales@xbolt.net
.ORG Domains:
Follow the same procedure as for .COM domains, but use the following handle:
Technical/Billing/Admin Handle: CORG-131237
